📌A Historic Moment in Surgical Education At the 25th IEA National Congress in Florence, Dr n. med. Paweł Wisz – Head of the Robotics Center at Państwowy Instytut Medyczny MSWiA in Warsaw – led a historic breakthrough: the world's first live telementoring demonstration at an academic conference.   This was not a pre-recorded video or a simulated case. It was a real-time, hands-on surgical mentorship conducted across international borders, before an audience of urologists and robotic surgery specialists. 1,200 Kilometers Apart, Operating Together Over a distance of 1,200 km, Dr. Wisz operated from Florence while mentoring a young surgeon in Warsaw. Powered by the Edge® robotic system, the two surgeons alternately controlled the robotic arms in real time, completing key steps of a robot-assisted radical prostatectomy together.   Technical Excellence: Low Latency, Real-Time Interactivity  The entire demonstration leveraged Edge®'s latest-generation proprietary telesurgery system, delivering complete remote connectivity and collaborative control.   Key technical highlights included: 🔹 Dual-console collaborative operation 🔹 One-click control switching in under 2 seconds 🔹 Stable 52ms round-trip latency on broadband network 🔹 Real-time coaching and co-manipulation   From Technical Validation to Mainstream Agenda This world-first live telementoring at a major academic conference has moved remote robotic mentorship from a technical validation phase into the mainstream of international surgical education. Following the telementoring demonstration, Dr. Wisz was invited to join a roundtable alongside several European experts. He shared the technical implementation and educational value of the live demonstration. As Dr. Wisz shared in his post, telesurgery, telementoring, and teleproctoring are no longer a futuristic vision of medicine. They are becoming a real element of the global surgical education system. He noted that this event shows that telesurgery is beginning to change not only how patients are treated, but also how surgical competence is passed on around the world. Today, technology allows expert knowledge and experience to reach farther than ever before.   In another live surgery, Prof. Francesco Porpiglia successfully performed a robot-assisted simple prostatectomy using the Edge® robotic system, noting its excellent energy device performance in intraoperative hemostasis. 🙏 Our sincere thanks to Dr. Wisz and Prof. Porpiglia for their outstanding surgical demonstrations and professional collaboration, and to all experts and partners who helped make this milestone possible. Edge Medical remains committed to breaking geographical barriers – empowering more surgeons and bringing expert surgical care to patients around the world.
