Firstever Crossgeography Multispecialty Remote Surgeries: PreciseManipulation from Thousands of Kilometers Away Becomes Reality
Launched in August 2026 at King Saud University Medical City in Riyadh, the first phase of the program delivered seven surgical procedures within three days. Patients stayed in operating rooms at King Khalid University Hospital, while surgical specialists operated remotely via the Edge Medical roboticsystem from control rooms housed inside Seha Virtual Hospital. All procedures were completed successfully.
The initial seven operations were performed by four lead surgeons: Dr Fahad Bamehriz, Dr Mojahed Bukhari, Dr Hamad Alsubai and Dr Alla Alghamedi. As one of the principal surgeons for Saudi Arabia’s inaugural remoterobotic surgeries, Dr Bamehriz praised the Edge Medical remotesurgery system for its stable and reliable performance that underwrote patient safety. Following the Riyadh deployment, the project expanded to Ha’il (approximately 600 km away) and Najran (nearly 1 000 km away).
