World's First "Single‑Port & Multi‑Port Integrated" Surgical Robot MSP2000 by Edge Medical Installed at the National Institute of Oncology in Hungary – Breaking the Monopoly, Bringing a New Choice to the Hungarian Market

Recently, the world's first "single‑port and multi‑port integrated" surgical robot system, the MSP2000, independently developed by Edge Medical®, was successfully installed and put into clinical use at the National Institute of Oncology (NIO) in Hungary. With this milestone, Edge Medical becomes the second brand of laparoscopic surgical robots to enter the Hungarian market, and also marks the first overseas deployment of this product form – establishing a new benchmark for "Intelligent Manufacturing in China" on the global stage.


A Breakthrough with High Credibility

Landing at the Only OECI‑accredited Cancer Centre in Central and Eastern Europe

 The NIO is not only the country's most authoritative and largest cancer diagnosis, treatment and research institution, but also the only Comprehensive Cancer Centre (CCC) in Central and Eastern Europe accredited by the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI).

Since its establishment with a modern structure in 1952, the NIO has served as the core hub for Hungary's national cancer control efforts. It acts as the authoritative reference centre for the Hungarian oncology network, coordinating the National Cancer Control Programme and managing the National Cancer Registry, thereby setting standards and guidelines for oncology care across the country. Clinically, the NIO comprises multiple clinical units and specialised diagnostic and research laboratories, offering a multidisciplinary integrated treatment system that combines surgical oncology, precision radiotherapy and targeted chemotherapy.

The successful installation of the Edge Medical robot not only validates the technological competitiveness of Edge Medical's products at a top‑tier international clinical institution, but also makes it the second laparoscopic surgical robot brand to be introduced at the NIO – and in Hungary as a whole. This signifies that the Hungarian laparoscopic surgical robot market has moved from a single‑brand landscape into a new era of multi‑brand choice. Chinese original technology has thus earned a highly credible "entry ticket" to compete side‑by‑side with industry giants in the high‑end European medical device arena.

A World‑First Product Form

A Unique Technological Pathway Defined by Chinese R&D

As the world's first "single‑port & multi‑port integrated" surgical robot platform, the Edge Medical MSP2000 achieves a systemic integration of both multi‑port and single‑port technologies. It fully leverages the broad application scope and procedural versatility of multi‑port robots, while incorporating the ultra‑minimally invasive nature, cosmetic incisions and faster recovery associated with single‑port surgery. Hospitals no longer need to purchase two separate systems – they can achieve "multi‑functionality on a single platform" as a strategic asset.

 This breakthrough is not a simple addition of features, but an original definition of the underlying technological roadmap for surgical robots worldwide. Currently, no comparable product form exists anywhere else in the world.

In October 2025, the Edge Medical MSP2000 officially obtained CE certification under the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR). The installation at the NIO represents the first overseas deployment of this product after certification – the "versatile minimally invasive" surgical platform, defined by Chinese innovation, has now entered the real‑world clinical arena on the international stage.

 

First Multi‑Port Surgeries Successfully Performed

Single‑Port Application to Fill a Long‑Standing Gap

 Following installation, the Edge Medical MSP2000 has already been successfully used in three initial multi‑port robot‑assisted surgeries at the NIO. Dr. Dombovary performed two robot‑assisted radical prostatectomies, and Dr. Kerepesi performed one total hysterectomy for endometrial cancer. Both surgeons gave positive feedback on the system's precision and stability after the procedures, noting that the Edge Medical robot delivered excellent performance in terms of accuracy, instrument dexterity and overall stability, with smooth responsiveness that met the demands of delicate dissection in complex oncological surgeries.

The smooth execution of these initial multi‑port procedures also lays a solid foundation for the upcoming single‑port applications. Notably, this installation also marks the first time a single‑port surgical robot system has been introduced into a public healthcare institution in Hungary. With the official launch of the single‑port mode of the Edge Medical MSP2000, Hungarian patients will have the opportunity to receive surgical treatment in an even less invasive manner, filling a long‑standing void in single‑port robotic surgery within the country's public healthcare system.

 

Building a "Single‑Port & Multi‑Port Integrated" Clinical Demonstration Centre

Radiating Influence Across Central and Eastern Europe

 Installation is just the beginning.

Going forward, the NIO will serve as the first "single‑port & multi‑port integrated" robotic surgery clinical demonstration and training centre in Central and Eastern Europe, systematically conducting technical training and clinical teaching sessions.

Leveraging the NIO's academic leadership and the technological advantages of the Edge Medical MSP2000, this centre will become the hub from which Edge Medical demonstrates its clinical value to the wider Central and Eastern European market. It will drive the translation of advanced single‑port and multi‑port robotic surgical techniques into standardised procedures that are accessible and learnable for surgeons across the region – truly promoting the widespread adoption and upgrading of minimally invasive surgical technology in this area.
