The arrival of Edge Medical's robotic system has made Hospital Lam Wah Ee the first healthcare institution in Northern Malaysia to offer robotic surgery, closing a critical gap in the region's minimally invasive surgical capabilities. The first procedure, a total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, was performed by Dr. Jason Yap Ker Wei, a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with extensive robotic surgery experience. The surgery was completed in just 110 minutes with only 5ml of blood loss — smooth, precise, and highly efficient.

Following the surgery, Dr. Jason spoke highly of the Edge robotic system. He noted that the preoperative preparation was smooth and efficient — platform positioning, trocar docking, and instrument setup all went without any issues. During the procedure, the system performed with remarkable stability and the operation was seamless. As the first robotic surgery at Hospital Lam Wah Ee and across Northern Malaysia, he considered the entire procedure outstanding. He particularly emphasized that the overall performance of the Edge robotic system "exceeded our expectations," and expressed his eagerness to integrate the robot more deeply into routine clinical practice, as it benefits not only patients but also the hospital and the entire surgical team.

Prior to the surgery, Dato' Dr. Yip Kok Thye, Medical Superintendent of Hospital Lam Wah Ee, personally tested the Edge robotic system and gave high praise to its overall performance. He noted that compared to traditional laparoscopic surgery, the robotic system demonstrated significant improvements in flexibility, precision, and ergonomic comfort.
