We brought our Edge® multi-port and single-port surgical robots to #UAA2026. Through keynote lectures, the EDGE Luncheon, joint symposia, live surgeries, and hands-on demos, we engaged with urologists from Asia and beyond.

Opening plenary: China’s telesurgery journey

Academician Zhang Xu of Chinese PLA General Hospital delivered “Advancing Telesurgery: From Technological Breakthroughs to Clinical Transformation.” He traced the path from Beijing–Sanya animal experiments (~3,000 km) to a 5-hospital, 72-patient multicenter RCT, and then to intercontinental procedures—including a Rome–Beijing remote surgery and robot-assisted IVC tumor thrombectomy with ~143 ms average latency. His message: telesurgery is moving from “feasible” to “routine.”

Real-world evidence from India

Dr. Raghunath S.K. (HCG Cancer Hospital, Bengaluru) shared his experience with the Edge® multi-port robot: short learning curve, excellent usability, and ergonomic design that improves precision and comfort. India’s first Edge® multi-port robot was installed in May 2026, and has already supported 70+ clinical cases.

Deep dive: standards, single-port, and 700+ telesurgeries

- Academician Zhang Xu gave a video lecture on building safe, scalable telerobotic surgery—covering standards, regulations, training, cybersecurity, and liability.

- Prof. Teng Jingfei (Chinese PLA General Hospital) presented 2 years of telesurgery practice and the multicenter RCT results: 100% success rate, non-inferior to local surgery, with comparable operative time, bleeding, hospital stay, and complications.

- Edge Cloud® telesurgery has now completed 700+ cases.

- An Edge Medical® representative presented the Edge® single-port robot for deep, narrow pelvic spaces—enabling internal triangulation, multi-DOF instruments, and multi-quadrant reach.

Two live surgeries—local and cross-border

On Sept 5, two urologic procedures were broadcast live:

At Cardinal Santos Medical Center (Philippines), Dr. Daniel Eun (Jefferson Health) and Dr. Ian Lorenzo (PUA President-Elect) jointly performed robot-assisted partial nephrectomy using the Edge® multi-port robot via dual-console collaboration.

A ~3,000 km telesurgery: Prof. Ai Xing (Chinese PLA General Hospital) operated from the UAA venue in Manila on a patient in Beijing, completing a robot-assisted partial nephrectomy with precise dissection, tumor excision, and renal reconstruction.

Experts praised the robot’s instrument configuration, clinical capability, and cost-effectiveness potential.

At our booth, physicians experienced the 3D vision, flexible instruments, and precise control firsthand—and exchanged ideas on complex pelvic surgery, gynecologic oncology, and robotic training.
