At the 26th APAGE Annual Congress & 13th IGES Annual Congress in Bali, Edge Medical® connected Hangzhou, Wuhan, and Bali in real time—showing how robotic telesurgery can expand access to expert gynecologic care.
China innovation on the Asia-Pacific stage
APAGE is a leading regional organization for gynecologic endoscopy and minimally invasive therapy. This year’s theme: “Collective Brilliance: Elevating Gynecology Endoscopy through Shared Innovation.” Edge Medical® exhibited the Edge® multi-port surgical robot and hosted hands-on demos for gynecologists from across the region.

The surgery: high complexity, precise collaboration
Prof. Wang Hui (Party Secretary, Women’s Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University) remotely operated from Hangzhou to perform a total hysterectomy with bilateral adnexectomy for a patient at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. Director Zhang Wei and Associate Chief Physician Xiong Jiaqiang served as patient-side assistants in Wuhan.
The patient had multiple uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, and severe pelvic adhesions—plus hypertension, a history of moyamoya bypass surgery, and long-term anticoagulation. This combination demanded exceptional tissue identification, adhesion separation, ureteral protection, vascular management, and precise hemostasis.

Three-location live broadcast
The surgical view was transmitted live to the APAGE 2026 venue in Bali. Experts watched as the Hangzhou surgeon side and Wuhan patient side worked in tight rhythm: the patient-side team ensured exposure, instrument coordination, and safety, while the remote surgeon completed key dissection, vascular control, and specimen removal. Blood loss was minimal, adjacent organs were protected, and the procedure was completed successfully.

From cross-hospital collaboration to international sharing
This live broadcast turned a single clinical case into an open academic exchange. It showcased not just a device, but a new model: Chinese hospitals, doctors, and medtech companies working together to advance intelligent minimally invasive surgery, remote collaboration, and global knowledge sharing.
At our booth, physicians also got hands-on with the Edge Medical system and exchanged ideas with us on complex pelvic surgery, gynecologic oncology, and robotic training.
Edge Medical® will continue working with global clinical experts and institutions to bring robotic surgery and telesurgery into more gynecologic scenarios—helping high-quality care cross borders and reach more patients.
